The museum contains a large collection of antique furniture, art, and objets d’art, as well as historical documents and memorabilia related to the Bellamy family and Wilmington. Tours of the mansion are available Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Admission fees vary depending on the time of year, but are generally quite reasonable.

The Bellamys were one of Wilmington’s most prominent families; General Bellamy fought in several battles during the war, while Mrs. Bellamy raised money for supplies and helped organize troops. After the war, General and Mrs. Bellamy resumed their mercantile careers.
The mansion was later home to Governors John Motley Morehead and Francis Aiken; Confederate States Secretary of War Judah P. Benjamin; textile magnate Jeremiah Van Lew; and other leading citizens of Wilmington throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, the museum is open to visitors during regular business hours (M-F 9AM-5PM), with special tours offered on Saturdays at 1 PM (call ahead for reservations). Admission is free for all ages except for special exhibitions that charge nominal fees.
